All solar inverter replacements automatically qualify for 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Applies to both equipment and labour. Typical saving: £300-£500.

Home Energy Scotland (HES) Grants#

Home Energy Scotland provides grants for renewable energy upgrades, including inverter replacement when combined with battery storage or heat pumps.

Rural Scheme

£9,000 grant + £9,000 loan (interest-free, 10-year repayment)

  • Inverter + battery storage
  • EPC rating D or below recommended

Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling, Perth and other major cities

Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)#

Not a grant, but ongoing income for exported solar electricity. After inverter replacement, you can continue to receive SEG payments (typically 4-15p per kWh exported). We help you notify your SEG provider of the inverter change.

Stopped Grants#

No longer available
  • HES Solar PV grant: Stopped 6 June 2024. This was for new solar panel installations, not inverter replacements.
  • Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS): England and Wales only. Scotland uses HES grants instead.
