Editorial Policy

How we research, write and maintain the information on this site.

How Facts Are Checked

Every factual claim on this site is verified against authoritative primary sources before publication. Our reference sources include:

  • gov.scot — Scottish Government energy policy, grants and regulation
  • Home Energy Scotland — official advice service for Scottish households
  • Ofgem — Feed-in Tariff and Smart Export Guarantee rules
  • MCS Registry — installer certification and standards (MCS MIS 3002)
  • Engineering Recommendation G98/G99 — DNO connection standards (ENA)

Where we quote costs, timescales or regulatory requirements, we link or cite the source. If a figure cannot be independently verified, we state it is based on our own installation data and give the date range.

Review Frequency

All pages are reviewed on a quarterly cycle. Each page displays its last-updated date and next review date. Between scheduled reviews, pages are updated immediately if a regulatory change affects the advice (e.g. DNO process changes, grant scheme updates, tariff rate changes).

Who Reviews

Content is written and reviewed by the Scottish Energy Efficiency technical team. Our installation partner holds the following accreditations:

  • MCS Certified — registration IAA10151
  • TrustMark Registered — licence 3559930
  • Gas Safe Registered — registration 559575

Technical claims about installation processes, DNO requirements and system specifications are reviewed by qualified MCS-certified solar PV engineers with direct experience of Scottish DNO processes (SPEN and SSEN).

Correction Process

If you spot an error or outdated figure on this site:

  1. Email info@scottishenergyefficiency.co.uk with the page URL and the error you have found.
  2. We will verify against our primary sources within 2 working days.
  3. If confirmed, the page is corrected immediately and the "last updated" date is revised.
  4. Material corrections (those that affect a buying decision or regulatory compliance) are noted at the bottom of the affected page for 90 days.

Commercial Transparency

This site is operated by Scottish Energy Efficiency. We sell inverter replacement and solar repair services. Our editorial content exists to inform — but we are not independent journalists. Where our advice leads to a recommendation to replace an inverter, that is a service we provide. We believe honesty about this is better than pretending otherwise.
