The clearest sign is zero generation showing on the inverter display in full daylight, often accompanied by a red fault light or error code. If your generation meter is still counting up, the inverter is working — the issue is elsewhere (often the export meter or monitoring system).

The physical swap typically takes half a day. The limiting factor is parts availability and DNO paperwork. For a like-for-like swap with stock parts: 3–5 working days from diagnosis. For a hybrid upgrade needing G99 approval: 3–6 weeks depending on your DNO area.

No — but you must handle it correctly. A like-for-like replacement (same make and kW rating) requires no notification. A different model or rating requires written notification to your FIT licensee. We handle this paperwork as part of every job.

G98 is a notification — you inform the DNO after the work is done. It applies to systems up to 3.68 kW per phase. G99 is an application — you need approval before energising. It applies above 3.68 kW or when adding battery storage. G99 takes longer (2–6 weeks with SSEN, shorter with SPEN).

Only if you are genuinely considering battery storage within the next 2–3 years. A hybrid costs £700–£1,500 more than a like-for-like string inverter. If you have no plans for battery, the extra cost does not pay back. We will give you an honest recommendation based on your usage pattern.

Yes — all of Scotland including SSEN areas, Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles. Lead times are longer in remote areas: typically 1–2 weeks from diagnosis to installation due to freight logistics. We quote an honest timescale upfront rather than promise next-day when the freight reality is different.

Most inverters carry 5–10 year manufacturer warranties. If yours has failed within that period, pursue the warranty claim first. We can advise on the process and provide a replacement while the claim is processed if you cannot wait. Some manufacturers (particularly those that have ceased trading) no longer honour claims.

We stock and fit Solis, SolarEdge, Huawei, Fox ESS and Hanchu hybrid inverters. The choice depends on your existing panel array configuration, string voltage, and whether you want battery capability. We match the replacement to your system — not the other way around.
